Orton Plantation was founded in 1725 by Roger Moore.
Durning the past century Orton Plantation became one of the most famous
rice plantations of the lower Cape Fear. Rice culture on the
Atlantic Coast was abondoned after the 19th century, and the old
ricefields have not been cultivated for several decades. (Orton
